1979: The Dream Is Born
1983–1986: The Preparatory Years
1987: Making It Official
This is the year that Art City Music Academy transforms from a dream into a reality! Well, partially. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Music, Yvonne opens her music school offering piano lessons in Springville, Utah.
As a leap of faith and a dedication to creating the best possible learning environment for both students and teachers, Art City Music Academy acquires its first grand piano. Meanwhile, Yvonne also acquires a spouse!
She and Chris marry four months after her graduation and the newlyweds pledge their commitment to not only one another but also to building the ultimate piano school.
1990: Building the Business,
One Piano at a Time
After a couple of years of successful teaching, the Academy gets its first incredible 7’6” semi-concert grand piano. This is a huge leap in instrument quality that enables Art City to bring recitals in-house. After all, now there is nowhere else in town that has better instruments!
Chris works hard to help Yvonne with building the Academy while earning his Bachelor’s degree and starting a career in the computer industry. Although this will be a 12-year career in computers, his heart and soul is still at the Academy.
It is also at this time that the Academy begins to offer an extremely innovative and effective group music program for young beginners.
1991–1995: A Period of Rapid Growth
Due to the consistently high-quality music lessons, Art City Music Academy continues to grow. By 1991, the Academy opens a second location in Orem, Utah to give more families access to incredible music education.
The following year, the Academy opens the innovative Music Theory Lab so they can expand the curriculum to include more comprehensive education, including formal training in music theory.
The success of the program prompts a move to a new and improved Springville location in 1995. Now Art City Music Academy has triple the space and a formal Recital Hall to give students an even better environment to learn, practice, and grow in.
1996: Never Stop Learning
2000–2001: Student Success & Community Recognition
Yvonne’s dream of owning a successful music school comes to life as the Academy’s first students begin achieving their big goals and dreams. For some, that means gaining entrance into competitive and prestigious university music programs. For others, winning coveted opportunities to perform as Concerto Soloists with local orchestras.
As demand for their successful music education grows, the Academy opens a third location in American Fork, Utah. Meanwhile, the local community recognizes the Academy’s outstanding contributions by voting the Academy 1st Place in Music Instruction for the Best of Utah Valley awards.
2004–2013: The Academy Makes Its Mark
in Musical Education
During an important period of expansion, the Academy adds exciting new offerings. Students can now enjoy private lessons in violin and voice in addition to piano.
In 2008, guided by two decades of teaching experience, the Academy officially develops its own curriculum for young beginners. Known as Mighty Musicians, this world-class program builds a massive musical foundation for children aged 6 months through 10 years and prepares them for a lifetime of musical success and enjoyment.
In 2010, affiliate schools begin using the Mighty Musicians Program, which will go on to be used nationwide! As recognition of the Academy’s proven music education program grows, the Academy quadruples its space by expanding its Orem and American Fork locations, including adding a new Recital Hall.
2017–2021: Only the Best for Our Students
With State of the Art Facilities
By the time the Academy celebrates its 30th anniversary, it has helped transform the lives of thousands of students in the community thanks to hundreds of thousands of effective lessons.
Inspired by the success of the students, the Academy continues to procure the finest instruments possible, including its eighth and ninth concert quality grand pianos. Art City now boasts the finest collection of instruments of any private, non-university music program in the state of Utah!
2022–Present
The Academy wins the Best of Utah Valley for the ninth year in a row, in recognition of the tireless commitment to providing unmatched music instruction.
