Lela Packard
Lela became a student of the Academy when she was 4 years old and continued until she graduated from High School at age 18.

The Challenge
Lela was a precocious child with a natural determination and older siblings who all did music. She showed interest at a young age and her parents didn’t know the best way to get her started.
Our Solution
We had the perfect program at every stage of Lela’s musical development and the track to help her achieve a lifetime of musical enjoyment.
Lela started in our group program for young beginners at age four where she was exposed to a comprehensive set of musical concepts including music theory, ear training, keyboard playing, solfege, singing, and much, much more. As she grew, developed and improved, her classes evolved right along with her to match her increasing skills and abilities. By the time she graduated from the program, she possessed skills far beyond what one would expect for a private student his age.
At about age 9, Lela entered our private program where she enjoyed weekly, individualized lessons which took her skills to a new level. Her learning was further super-charged by numerous performance opportunities and work in our music theory lab.
Because of her skill, work ethic and delightful personality, Lela was invited to become an apprentice teacher at the Academy during her High School years which gave her meaningful work and allowed her to share hers talent and hard work with others.
The Results
During her time with us, Lela participated in close to 100 successful performances which included wins in various Festivals and other competitions as well as a concerto performance with her High School Orchestra. Her music study helped her develop the coveted skills of discipline, focus, concentration, goal-setting, problem-solving, along with many others. These skills, no doubt, helped her graduate from High School with High Honors. She was also accepted into the piano program at BYU in the most competitive year in history when hundreds of students vied for only seven openings. Lela is now in England completing a graduate degree in the Neuroscience of Musical Performance and enjoys making music whenever she can.
